Making Progress

Friday, January 11, 2008

Well today will be a short post. I have been ripping out the stitches on my memory pages, which is S L O W going and I have made some progress on my Valentine......

I used some hand-dyed lace motif as a base for the middle of my heart, added some rolled ribbon roses with beautiful Artemis silk satin ribbon, filled in with green Hanah silk ribbon intertwined with loops of Kreinik metallic green thread. I then added a pearl beaded picot trim just on the inside of the heart and a small porcelain butterfly. I think I am about finished with the front and will move on to the inside of the fabric card. I need to look for a nice Valentine poem to print on silk for the inside and then add some embroidery stitching before finalizing the project. I don't have any idea who my swap partner is, but always try to create something that any lady would enjoy.

I am packing as we speak to go on my church's ladies retreat this weekend. We go to a lodge specifically designed for retreats; The Lodge at Danbury. It is set back on beautiful wooded acreage surrounded by lakes and trees - very peaceful and serene. The weatherman, fortunately, says we are supposed to have nice weather this weekend. Yeah! It is such a delightful time of reflection, learning and fun. I will be sure to post pics when I return Sunday evening.

Our church recently acquired a bbq pit and my DH heads up that team - he loves to grill. It looks kind of like a little train doesn't it? He will be cooking brisket, chicken and beans for our retreat on Saturday....mmmmm. It is also a nice way for me to sneak in a hug on a weekend I wouldn't normally see him.

I hope you all have a fun weekend planned!

Dear Jules, your heart is gorgeous as is all your work. It is Sat am here and my DH has just made me coffee. We are off for a weekend away, but I just wanted to write as I always think about you and your DH now when I am having my coffee treat. Hope your retreat is awesome.
