One World One Heart 2011

Well, I have decided at the last minute to participate in "One World One Heart", which is the brain child of  Lisa Swifka at The Whimiscal Bohemian.  It is a wonderful way to reach out to bloggers internationally.

First, I want to thank you for visiting my blog.  My name is Julie, but I am also known affectionately in the crazy quilt community as Jules.  I live on the Texas Gulf Coast with my DH and beloved animals.  My interests are a bit eclectic - I am a "crazy" quilter, but I also love to dabble in mixed media and digital art. I am a Christian and feel that the talents we have are special gifts given to us by God and they are meant to be shared.  So, I especially enjoy being involved in charitable projects and projects that will bring encouragement to others.  I am also a staff writer for CQMagOnline.com, a free quaterly online publication for crazy quilters.

I have three items for the OWOH give-away.  The first is a wool strawberry needle case kit.  The finished needlecase is approximately 5-6" long  Picture, wool and instructions are all included to make this delightful and quite useful needlecase.

My second item to be given away is a vintage baby-shoe pincushion which I recently made. You can see the tutorial in the current issue of CQMagOnline.  This is a baby shoe that has been painted, distressed, and decorated with lace, silk roses, buttons, and music fabric.  The pincushion itself is filled with emery shavings to help keep needles sharp and protected.

My third item is a project box.  Something like this is nice to carry a small project or a piece of a project along with you when you are out and about; doctor's office waiting, etc.  This is a vintage cigar box onto which I have put a quilted collage of items including fabric, lace, buttons, jewelry findings, and a picture of a lady doing hand sewing on the top. The inside of the box is lined with wool which is convenient when working with beads. The text on the box reads:  "happiness is fingers at play..."  to which I fully subscribe.  There are also three vintage typewriter keys which spell the word JOY.  Just for a little extra fun, I have filled the box with a few bits and pieces of lace, trim, silk ribbon, a bag of buttons, etc.  A little something to get a new project started.
